Sa plage de transmission s’étend de l’ultra-violet à l’infrarouge ondes courtes. Le N-BK7 est doté d’une bonne stabilité thermique. Résistant à la plupart des produits chimiques non fluorés et non alcalins, il est toutefois sensible aux acides. Le N-BK7 présente une faible dispersion ce qui en fait un matériau adapté notamment à la spectroscopie.
